LaPlaya has a charming, deeply entrenched history with Naples.
The original owner and operator, Mr. Philip Francoeur, a legend in the Naples hotel business, opened LaPlaya Beach & Racquet Inn in January 1968 with 98 hotel rooms. With the benefit of a wonderful location, it was considered one of only two upscale beachfront hotels, making it a huge success. French chefs were brought to LaPlaya during the winter season, opening a seasonal gourmet French cuisine restaurant called the Casbah. Bi-weekly cocktail parties, hosted by Mr. & Mrs. Francoeur truly endeared guests to the resort.
In 1983, a tower was added making a total of 191 guest rooms. In early 1994, LaPlaya was purchased by Noble House Hotel and Resorts, and an immediate renovation was completed, reopening in December, 1994. After several refurbishments, and using the familiar LaPlaya name as an anchor to preserve the strong ties with the community and a loyal guest following, the dramatic ‘new’ LaPlaya Beach Resort was introduced in January, 1996.
In 1998, when development in Naples was on an upward trend, together, Noble House Hotels and Resorts and the Barron Collier Companies, merged into a joint venture, and decided to redevelop this luxury boutique resort and undertook a $54 million renovation in 2001. The designers artfully reformatted the layout, transformed the design, and preserved the classic style and vistas, while Noble House landscape architects sculpted and enhanced the landscape and natural environment. Created was a totally new and unique interior reflective of the contemporary style and classicism of the Gulf Coast. The aim was to recreate the essence of “Olde Florida,” using the region for inspiration and transforming the LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort and introducing the all new LaPlaya Beach & Golf Club in February, 2002.
In 2012, LaPlaya celebrated ten years of success. History continues to be made each day, as we welcome our members, family and friends to enjoy the warm hospitality that is LaPlaya.
